QUESTUM has a voluntary independent Advisory Board providing advice to the management of the Centre and to the Governing Body of Limerick Institute of Technology, offering industry insights and networking opportunities to the management of the Centre, to help promote QUESTUM as a centre for innovation, a focus for research and to drive enterprise in Clonmel and the South-East. The Advisory Board also provides guidance on:
• Education and training programmes for enterprise and development;
• Research and commercialisation;
• Services for resident-client HPSU businesses; • Marketing of the Centre;
• Sources of funding;
The Advisory Board is comprised of the following:
Tom Brennan – QUESTUM Entrepreneur in Residence
Co-founder of Waterford based EirGen Pharma in 2005, which was acquired by Miami based NASDAQ listed OPKO Health Inc in May 2015. The company now employs over 250 highly skilled personnel at their US FDA approved facility in Waterford which exports pharmaceuticals to almost 50 countries worldwide.
Tom is also a founder shareholder of specialist healthcare Stability Storage Specialist Q1 Scientific which is growing rapidly, co-founder of TriviumVet specialising in animal therapeutics, a board member of machine vision and automation specialists Crest Solutions and a board member of The National Maternity Hospital (Holles St.) Foundation.
Pat was the original QUESTUM Entrepreneur in Residence for three years from 2015, and is now the External Industry Advisor to resident-clients.
Pat is non-executive Deputy Chairman - International Development, PM Group which provides project management support across a range of sectors including biopharmaceutical, medical technology, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, cleantech/greentech, energy and food/nutrition.
Gillian Barry – LIT Head of Innovation & Enterprise
Gillian manages the LIT Innovation & Enterprise team across a number of sites in Limerick, Clare and Tipperary, as well as two entrepreneur seed funds. She manages New Frontiers run in LIT - the national development programme funded by Enterprise Ireland, and is involved in a number of EU projects.
She is the Co-Founder & Director of the ITLG Young Innovators and the Model Startup Nations Summit and was part of the core team that led the Startup Gathering in 2015.
Gillian has a first class Executive MBA from UCC.
Derek Blackweir – LIT Tipperary: Innovation & Enterprise Manager
Derek is responsible for managing QUESTUM in Clonmel and the Thurles Community Enterprise Centre (TCEC) in Thurles, helping resident-clients develop start-up ideas and scale their businesses. He monitors the progress of resident-client companies and conducts initial evaluations of submissions to the LIT seed funds.
Derek has worked on a number of EU projects and is currently working with Gillian on an EU project to get young people back into education, employment or training.
